Elisabeth Kugler is a scientist at the interface of biology and biomedical image analysis. Her interests are to understand the basic cellular processes required in vasculogenesis, cell protrusions, and neurogenesis, and how different cell types spatially and functionally integrate.
As University College London Research Fellow, she develops an image-based computational model of retinal neurovascular unit development using advanced in vivo imaging data. To achieve this, she works with Dr. Ryan MacDonald, Prof. Dr. John Greenwood, and Prof. Dr. Christiana Ruhrberg at the Institute of Ophthalmology.
For her PhD at the University of Sheffield, she has developed image analysis pipelines for the zebrafish brain vasculature and characterised a previously undescribed cell membrane behaviour in brain vessels, termed kugeln, under the supervision of Prof. Tim Chico and Dr. Paul Armitage.
Elisabeth has a proven track record in delivering high quality interdisciplinary research by integrating experimental and computational approaches. To date, her research has resulted in various journal articles, conference proceedings, talks, posters, and science communication activities.
